The Twenty Cent Piece was minted in extremely limited quantities and is noted for being the shortest lived coin series ever produced. Authorized by Congress in 1875, the coin was issued in that year and in 1876 for circulation. The coin was actually authorized for special interest groups who wanted a coin for the Western States where cents and nickels did not readily circulate.
The Twenty Cent Piece was minted fro two more years in 1877 and 1878 in limited proof quantities. This series is also noted for the extremely rare 1876-CC of which only a handful are known.
