the Seated Liberty Quarter
The Seated Quarter made its appearance in 1838 and was continued through 1891.  In 1853 it underwent a weight change and to signify this, arrowheads were added to each side of the date.  There was also an aura of rays added to the eagle on the reverse.  During 1854 and 1855 the rays were discontinued but the arrowheads were retained until 1856.  In 1866, the motto IN GOD WE TRUST was added to the reverse and in 1873 and 1874 arrowheads were again added to the obverse.

This series is legendary for the number of rarities contained.  Coins such as the 1842 small date, the 1849-O, 1853 arrows and rays, Carson City issues of 1870-1873 and Philadelphia issues of 1879-1890.
